Kramer Honored with Outstanding Law School Dean Award

Larry Kramer, Richard E. Lang Professor of Law and Dean, received the 2009 John R. Kramer Outstanding Law School Dean Award from Equal Justice Works for his commitment to building an institution that nurtures the spirit of public service.

Since assuming the deanship at Stanford Law School in 2004, Kramer has spearheaded several significant educational reforms, including revamping programs to foster a public service ethos, enlarging the clinical education program, dramatically expanding joint degree programs as part of a multidisciplinary approach to legal studies, and building the international law program to support a growing emphasis on globalization in legal practice.

Judge David Tatel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit presented him with the award, praising the “dramatic explosion in public interest programs” at Stanford Law and his “outstanding” work as dean.
